East River Deer Season
The 2016 East River deer hunting season will begin on Nov. 19 and run through Dec. 4. East River antlerless deer licenses are also valid from Dec. 31 to Jan. 8.

It is illegal to hunt big game from road rights-of-way. To report violations, call the Turn in Poachers hotline at 1-888-OVERBAG (683-7224).

Please remember that permission is required to hunt on private land. Use the hunting atlas function on the free SDGFP mobile app, found on Google Play or Apple’s App Store to help you know where you are at all times.

As a reminder, and in response to the documented EHD cases and concerns shared by sportsmen and women as well as landowners, GFP is providing voluntary refunds for East river deer, east river special buck and landowner east river licenses for all east river firearm hunting units. Deer hunters questioning the return of their license for a refund are encouraged to visit with those landowners in areas where they have permission to hunt to best determine the local status and impact from EHD. Those who want to take advantage of the option to return a license for a refund need to mail the license/tags to: GFP Licensing Office, 20641 SD Hwy 1806, Fort Pierre, SD 57532. East River deer licenses must be post-marked by Nov. 18, 2016.
